Cuban American writer Meg Medina is an award-winning author who writes picture books, middle grade and YA fiction about strong girls, tough circumstances, and the connecting power of culture. Merci Suárez Changes Gears is about a sixth grader in the midst of change and confusion as a new scholarship student at a fancy private school.

Meg’s work examines how cultures intersect through the eyes of young people, and she brings to audiences stories that speak to both what is unique in Latino culture and to the qualities that are universal. Her favorite protagonists are strong girls. In March 2014, she was recognized as one of the CNN 10 Visionary Women in America.

Meg Medina is serves on the advisory board for We Need Diverse Books (WNDB), a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing diversity in children’s literature. WNDB advocates for essential changes in the publishing industry to produce and promote literature that reflects and honors the lives of all young people.
