Pittsburgh, Pa., July 3, 2018 — Beginning July 9, Paul Klatzkin, a veteran media-sales executive, will join the Pittsburgh Current as the Vice President of Print and Digital Sales. Klatzkin also will become a minority owner of the new print and digital publication that launched online last month.

Klatzkin leaves Pittsburgh City Paper after more than 17 years with the company. He rejoins Publisher/Editor Charlie Deitch and Associate Publisher Bethany Ruhe, whom he worked with at CP until the pair departed the paper in May.

“I’ve worked with Paul for more than 13 years and I knew he was without question the best person to lead and build our sales team,” Deitch said Thursday evening. “We are building a brand in the classic alt-weekly style — edgy, provocative and unafraid to cover the stories that other publications shy away from. Paul knows how to sell a hybrid print/digital product like that because he’s done it longer than just about anyone else in this city.

“He understands the mission and possesses the skills to make us the dominant product of its kind in the market.”

The Current will publish its first print issue July 11 and will begin publishing bi-monthly by September. For his part, Klatzkin says he looks forward to joining the startup publication.

“I am elated to join the Pittsburgh Current and look forward to offering local businesses a new and exciting outlet to connect with their customers,” Klatzkin said. “The print and digital offerings that the Current will make available to advertisers will be top-notch and our sales team can’t wait to go above and beyond for our new clients.

The Pittsburgh Current is an Independent, influence-free print and online publication formed by Deitch and Ruhe in June 2018 after their departures from City Paper.
