Pittsburgh Current continues its rapid growth with the announcement of three recent hires; Thria Devlin, Operations Director, Haley Fredrick, Food and News Writer, and Jake Mysliwczyk, Visuals Editor
“The energy that these three bring are exactly what we are trying to capture for our readers across the city,” said Current Editor and Publisher Charlie Deitch. “We are excited to have them as part of the team, and they’ve all been able to hit the ground running, racking up some amazing contributions already.”
For their part, all three are thrilled to be in on the ground-floor of Pittsburgh’s most exciting and vibrant alternative media publication.
“I’m so excited to work with a team of colleagues and friends that values its members’ voices and has true journalistic integrity,” said Devlin, who also becomes a minority owner in Pittsburgh Current LLC. “I can’t wait to implement growth within Pittsburgh Current to help make it a truly better alternative in the Pittsburgh region.”
Food and News writer Haley Fredrick added, “Local media is incredibly important to the well-being of our communities and our democracy. By remaining an independent publication, we’re promising this community that Pittsburgh Current’s integrity will never be compromised; that our loyalty won’t lie with anything other than the truth.
“Something that’s great about a new publication is that we’re not tied to the old way of doing things. No one is saying ‘we have to do it this way because that’s how it’s always been done.’ We can be modern and innovative. As a writer, I’m so glad to be a part of an alternative publication because I get to hold onto my voice. Traditional media often erases anything that humanizes reporters. When you’re reading our paper, you’ll get a sense of who we are.’
Jake Mysliwczwk, Visuals Editor, says he is excited to be able to capture some of the most important events and happenings around Pittsburgh. “Being a part of the Current is really important to me. I get to help tell people’s stories, to help lift people’s voices, and to show people all over the beauty that is Pittsburgh. It’s truly a dream job.”
